Love and Repentance.

loverepentIn my last blog “Knowing God” I said that there is no sin so we don’t have to repent to be saved. Liz kindly commented on this with her view and it prompted me to look at it again. Hence the reason for this blog. I want to talk about Gods love so that you can understand where I am coming from. I also want to look at repentance and why we feel we have to do it. Liz also mentions that she doesn’t think we can know God in the way that I say. I will have a look at this as well.

Love.

God is love. 1 John 4:18.

What is love?

1 Corinthians 13:4-8, Love suffers long, and is kind; love envies not; love vaunts not itself, is not puffed up, Does not behave itself unseemly, seeks not his own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil;  Rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;  Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.(UKJV)

Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up strifes: but love covers all sins.(UKJV)

1 Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent love among yourselves: for love shall cover the multitude of sins. (UKJV).

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, (UKJV).

Romans 5:8 But God commends his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (UKJV)

John 15:13 Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (UKJV)

I could go on. God is love. If He is love, which I believe He is then He would have no problem with sin. As I have said before. Jesus died with God and Holy Spirit in Him not for Gods sake but for ours. God’s love is so much more than we realise. I don’t think we will really understand Him until we see Him face to face.

Half way through my studies I was struggling with the wrathful God image that the bible portrayed. Holy Spirit said to me let love be your plumb line. A plumb line is used in construction to make sure the building is true. What ever I read about God, if it didn’t fit with love then I assumed it was not right. Later I was thinking about grace and mercy. These two things are dependant on someone deciding if you are worthy of grace and mercy. Have you been good enough? Is there a sin, which might take me out of Gods grace or mercy?

While I was praying I had a vision. I saw two candles one was grace the other was mercy. There light was dim. Then from behind came the blinding light of love. It consumed grace and mercy. I think what God was trying to show me was love is so much more than grace and mercy. It doesn’t matter who we are or what we have done. Love covers all. God loves all His creation and wants us to fellowship with Him. But we let things get in the way. Through Jesus God has taken away all that would stand in the way of us being with Him and knowing Him. From Gods side it is all done. We just have to know it and believe it and come boldly to His throne.

Do you need to repent to be saved?

No. Is my answer. I believe that everyone is already saved. It is that we are choosing to know God, Jesus and Holy Spirit. That we want a relationship with them. Repenting to be saved means that you change your mind to be saved. You decide to turn from your wicked ways and then you will be saved. That’s not what Paul tells us. Acts 16:31

Acts 16:30-31 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved, and your house. (UKJV)

But what happens if I don’t believe?

John 12:47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. (UKJV).

Jesus saves everyone. Anyone who doesn’t believe in the good news is left in darkness but that doesn’t mean they will go to hell. (Check out my hell blog).

I believe that when you encounter the love of Jesus then you choose to turn from your ways and embrace His. It is a gift from God that we are saved. God loves us and has done everything for us. All we have to do is want to know them. You change after you have met them not before. It is not by our works that we are saved. We don’t even need to believe and we are saved.

Do I need to repent of my sin daily?

This one confused me a bit. My understanding is all sin was cleansed from Jesus on the cross. The Law makes sin known to me. Romans 7:7. But even the law is no more. Luke 16:16. Being a gentile I was not even under the law in the first place. Confused? From Gods point of view there is no sin. All sin has been cleansed. But from our point of view we sin daily. John tells us to confess our sins and repent. But Martin Luther was stuck in that loop for a time and annoyed those around him. The truth is sin is forgiven, cleansed, wiped away, sent away. But the enemy still entraps us and convinces us to do it. The sin is still there and the way out is there also. Jesus will help you to be free from sin.

I have been listening to Hannah Whitall Smith. She was a lay speaker and author in the Holiness movement. She struggled with the constant problem of daily sin. But she found that giving the sin over to Jesus right when it started helped her to overcome it. I have been trying this my self and it has been working. I think we need to have more faith in Jesus and realise that He has done a lot more for us than we know. We need to abide in Him.

In answer to this question I think we need Jesus to help us change our mind. But if we do sin then there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. Romans 8:1. Paul tells us to walk in the spirit and Jesus says we need to take our cross daily. Luke 9:23. We are in a battle but God has given us what we need to fight it. 2 Peter 1:3.

As we walk in the spirit we will be changed into Jesus’ likeness. Holy Spirit is changing us all the time. Holy Spirit does the work. We will get to a point where sin will no longer be a reality in our lives. Titus 3:5-6, 2 Corinthians 3:18. It is an on going process. If we let Holy Spirit do His work then we will get there sooner.

I have found this hard because when I sin I feel that I need to say sorry for what I have done. I know that sin is covered, cleansed etc. but I still feel bad for doing it. What I have come to understand is God doesn’t have a problem with my sin because He doesn’t see my sin. I am the one that needs to realise this and not worry about it. Satan is trying to separate us from God and he uses guilt, shame and sin to do this. It is the only power that he has left. Oh and sickness. I still say sorry to God. If I were to do something wrong against a friend then I would go and say sorry. I don’t think that God requires it but I think He understands our need to do it. Love prompts us to say sorry to a friend. God I believe wants to be our friend to.

I can sin then?

Love is the reason. Jesus tells us to love our enemy, Him, Neighbour, each other, God and self. John 15:12, Matthew 5:44, Mark 12:31, Matthew 22:37. He commands it. As I showed earlier love does no harm or envy etc. That includes our self’s. If I sin then that sin depending on what it is might only affect me. But does it? If I am frustrated with this sin then I might get angry and snap at my family or friends. It could cause me to be angry with a stranger. Love does none of these things.

Ok sin is cleansed, wiped out, sent away but it doesn’t mean you can carry on doing it. Paul tells us this in Romans 6:1. Paul continues to say that we have died to sin and we are no longer slaves to it. We need to by faith walk in the newness of life. But if we have a bad day, don’t become condemned. Just get back up and carry on.

Jesus knew the effects that continuous sin could have. When dealing with the adulterous women and the guy by the pool. He told them to go and sin no more. John 5:14, 8:11. He knows that if you continue in your sin then it can enslave you and depending on the sin could lead to death. Jesus doesn’t wont us to be harmed. He helps us and guides us with Holy Spirit so we can live an abundant and joyful life.

Knowing God.

My last blog was all about this. After reading Liz’s comment I felt that I needed to explain a bit more where I am coming from.

What the bible says.

Jesus in John 17:5 tells us that eternal life is about knowing Them. There are other places in the bible, which tells us the same thing. The know here is as a friend or even as a husband or wife but with out the sex part. Jesus said that if we keep His commandment (to love) and we love Him, then He will manifest Himself to us. The Father will also love us. John 14:21. He also says that He and His Father will make their home with us. Verse 23. Holy Spirit is our Helper also.

John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; (UKJV).

Lets have a look at that word.

Blue letter Bible website says:

Helper – parakletos – G3875.

Comforter, advocate, called to ones side, helper, assistant.

The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness and searches our hearts. Romans 8:26,27.

This is quite an intimate thing to have your heart searched. You wouldn’t let a stranger search your heart? These all point to being known by God, Jesus and Holy Spirit. If God is love then why do we not like the fact? The bible clearly shows us that they want to know us. Why do we not let them?

My experience.

Ever since I was little I have always believed in God. I have always had a desire to know and see them. When I was 18 a friend of mine taught me how to play the guitar. I then began to worship with that guitar. It opened a whole new world to me, which I never knew was there. It is even more so now that I worship in the spirit. I have had many encounters with God, Jesus and Holy Spirit. All of them have been life changing. All of them I have felt their love. I have not seen them with my open eyes yet but my desire to know them is even more now than ever. I feel their love regularly. I can say from experience that they love me because it is something I have felt. I wish there was a way to show others. It saddens me that a lot of Christians do not experience God, Jesus and Holy Spirit in the way that I do. I don’t mean to brag. If I could give it to others then I would not hesitate.

This is why I say that they want this kind of relationship with everyone. All you have to do is rest in them. Ask them. God is with you right now. Just stop. Close your eyes and say papa. I am here. You might be amazed by what you experience. I have heard some preachers say, “It is not all about feelings”. In some cases I would agree. There have been times when the only reason I have worshipped is to try and recreate the experience I had the day before. But that is wrong. We worship them not for what we can get but for what we can give. In other cases I don’t agree. Many times when I have worshipped with out selfish intent God has shown me His love in many different ways. For example.

I had being worshipping for about 30 minutes when I became aware of God. It was like He was in the room with me. I didn’t feel scared or like I had to fall to my knees on the floor. I just felt His love. When I had finished I was overwhelmed with joy. When ever I began to think about God I began to laugh. This lasted for about half an hour. I just laughed and laughed and laughed. It was fantastic. God showed me that He loves me and that He wants me to laugh.

I could go on all day but I think I have made my point. There is not anyone special. God does not have His favourites. He loves us all the same but that love is bigger than we can ever imagine. All you have to do is give Him the time and He will show you the rest. I go into this more in my last blog. “Knowing God”.

Tell our Family.

I was listening to some Christian music when I had a revelation. We are all in the same family. I felt that all the strangers around the world where like my brother, sister, mother and father. It was amazing. Jesus says that we are His sheep and we know His voice. John 10:16. He also says that all are brethren. Matthew 23:8 There are many scriptures that tell us that all are saved/healed, made righteous, justified etc. John 3:17, 12:47, Romans 5:18,19, Jesus died on the cross for all not just for those who believe. Through all my blog’s I have talked about this. Every one is a Child of God and part of His family but they don’t know it. It is our job to tell them. It is our job to heal them and help them, to get them out of darkness into the light. We should be out there telling everyone what they have in Jesus and tell them that God wants to know them. Why do we have such a problem with this?

Before satan messed things up Gods plan was to have a huge family who He would fellowship with. But because of what happened that plan was put on hold. Jesus came to un pause that plan. Gods plan never changed. We are all made by Him and return to Him. Ecclesiastes 12:7. We where all created for and by Jesus. Colossians 1:16.

When Jesus came to earth He was on a mission from His Father. He healed, set captives free and fellowshipped with us. He said that as you have seen Him you have seen the Father. John 14:9. He didn’t have a problem with sinners in fact He made them His disciples. He commanded us to do what He has done. He told us to go and heal the world like He was doing and to set the captives free. How will they know unless they are told? If you have a brother, sister, father or mother who doesn’t believe don’t you want to and try to tell them? We need to do this for everyone. We need to show the world Gods love and change their idea that God is wrathful and that being a Christian involves lots of rules etc..

This is why I write these blog’s. God has shown me so many things I cant keep them to my self. If my blog’s can help or free just one person then it is worth all the time I spend and I would do it all again in a second.

I hope this will help you all and Liz thanks for your comment. I did put the last blog out with haste. But this is why I leave the comments open. My aim is to help others Christian or not to know God, Jesus and Holy Spirit better. I hope that this is what I get across. God Bless.

truth for all of us

I am searching for the truth and this is what I have found.

  1. Hi Chris, I appreciate that you are sharing the Love of our God and also your openness to look into topics. I’d like to submit these few verses for your consideration- they speak about the importance of repentance in the life of a Christian. It seems that you do live out repentance, since you are saying sorry to God, (as I do too,) and your life/actions are such that resoundingly reflect you Love Him, (which seems to me to be a clear definition of repentance.)

So my concern is not for you, but that others reading your blog may end up thinking that they do not need to repent in order to follow God and be saved. I believe we do need to repent from our sin in order to be saved.

I know you shared the verse in Acts that says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.” But I am confused why you think we do not even need to believe and yet are still saved? Additionally, I am convinced that this believing encompasses more than an intellectual/verbal assent and also does include a change in our actions- a turning from our wicked ways. (James 2:14-26) I agree with you that we are saved by faith and not by works. But that faith does need to be evident.

I respect that your life overflows with obvious evidence of your faith, love for God, and intimacy with God. I also respect that you feel differently on this topic of repentance and salvation, so I wanted to share these scripture verses for your consideration, instead of simply my own thoughts.

“Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. …You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! … Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?” James 2:17,19,24

“Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,” Acts 3:19

“When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.” Acts 11:18

“Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38

“In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Luke 15:10

“And He [Jesus] told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and in His name repentance and forgiveness of sins will be proclaimed to all nations, beginning in Jerusalem. Luke 24:46-47

“He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.” Proverbs 28:13

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'” Matthew 7:21-23

Thankyou for your ministry in sharing the Love of our Savior. May God bless you abundantly.

    1. Hi Julie.
Thanks for your comment. Thanks for the scriptures. I see where you are coming from. I used to be there to. I have a different view of the bible now. I manly stick with John. I only go by what Jesus says, as the rest is man’s interpretation. There is no repentance in the book of John. Which I find interesting. I am not going to re-write what I believe but I do see you concerns. I would hope that people would read this blog and with the help of Holy Spirit understand what Holy Spirit showed me. I only write these blog’s to help and to show Gods love and to share what i know and have experienced. Being stuck in a repentance loop all the time can become distractive. God wants us to be free to love Him and fellowship with Him. God Bless.
